Sebastien has a unique ability to design gardens which are distinctive and timeless. Using the latest innovative products or traditional raw earth materials, he has the natural design talent to produce original and functional gardens that thrive in their environment and meet the client brief for form, function and style.
Sebastien has a Diploma of Horticulture, a strong passion for design, and extensive construction and landscaping skills and knowledge that combined have led him to a successful landscaping business. Having achieved a high distinction in Landscape Design at Chisholm Institute of Tafe, he excels in bringing a client’s garden space to life. His practical site knowledge and environmental understanding, combined with unique design ability, enables him to design beautiful innovative garden spaces that enhance a client’s lifestyle. He has been inspired by landscape Architect Paul Bangay, Horticultural specialists Linda Thorton and Steven Ryan, and continues to be involved in the landscape industry and community to gain consistent inspiration and knowledge of the latest materials.
Having a combined design and construction business allows him to build and create exactly what he has envisaged and designed on paper, his business bridges the gap from designer to constructor.
Sebastien has had an interest and passion for gardens and Flora since a very young age. Since his early teens Sebastien has had several careers in the construction industry. In his late 20’s he decided to fulfil his childhood passion and pursue a landscaping career, and now has a successful and reputable landscaping business. One of Sebastien’s stand out skills is stone masonry. He has a natural gift for stone masonry and the finished product speaks for itself.
Sebastien’s philosophy for landscape construction is to achieve perfection, he will go above and beyond to achieve the best finish possible in his work. With a strong work ethic and a sincere passion for landscaping, Sebastien strives to create beautiful gardens and prides himself on quality workmanship, meeting time lines, and above all, client satisfaction.
The initial consultation is a chance for the client to meet Sebastien and have a brief chat about the client’s landscaping proposal. This is usually done on site so Sebastien and the client can have a thorough understanding of the proposal. Sebastien will then present the Earth Design Landscapes design scope of works fee proposal.
After accepting Earth Design Landscapes design scope of works fee proposal, the design brief consultation can be arranged. This is an in depth discussion which allows the client to express their landscaping needs and wish list, allowing them to describe the proposed landscapes function, form and style. Sebastien will then input his horticultural, design and construction advice to combine a practical design concept that suits the client’s wishes and budget. A presentation of previous design plans can be made, allowing the clients to better understand design concepts and costs.
Sebastien will assess the site for design constraints and advantages, focusing on the sun path, prevailing winds, areas of elevation etc. If necessary he will take a detailed survey of the land fall and existing conditions that will remain. This information is taken into the office where a comprehensive design concept is sketched, the design will be drawn in full response to the clients brief taking into account the site constraints, advantages and client budget. It will then be transferred into either a hand drawn or CAD presentation design.
The presentation design will include a detailed plan of all the features proposed for the garden, which includes structures, materials, surfaces, lighting and plants. Earth Design Landscapes will provide photos and samples of any materials used to clearly demonstrate the design.
If the presentation design is for town planning purposes also, we will meet the needs of the planning requirements outlined in the planning documentation, and these will be noted on the plan.
Earth Design Landscapes will provide structural detailing and documentation where necessary, allowing the clients to fully understand the construction components to any structures proposed in the design.
Earth Design Landscapes will provide a plant schedule photo booklet, describing each plant to be used.
Sebastien will consult with the client and agree on a start date for construction. A time frame for completion will also be discussed and agreed upon.
Site clearing and preparation will firstly take place, followed by site cuts, digs and foundation preparation if necessary.
The second stage of construction involves buildings structures, hardscapes and installation of large materials such as rocks.
The third stage of construction is adding the finishing touches that bring the whole landscape together, such as laying turf, toppings for paths and driveways, creating garden beds with edging and plant installation.
